This is my supplemental builders blog for a Cozy Mark IV which is a 4-seat, single engine, homebuilt light aircraft designed by Nat Puffer, with parts and plans supplied by Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co. The aircraft is built from plans using basic raw materials. It is not a kit aircraft, though many small parts are available prefabricated. The Cozy is similar in design and construction to the 2-seat Rutan Long-EZ, from which it is derived, with approval from Burt Rutan.

2019/02/23 Documentation
Most builders will check off and track their build progress in the plans. This helps ensure no steps are missed and everything is completed. During the last couple of years, I looked at some flying and project Cozy's and EZ's for sale. Often the builders plans and logs were available, but occasionally there were no logs or no plans. Someone that is not a builder would typically not have any idea what makes an aircraft the same or unique from others without this information.
I purchased the EAA Air Frame log book, but with all of the additional mods with varying levels of complexity, decided the information needs to be organized better than piled into a box. It is to extensive to try to cram into a single air frame log book. The engine and props came with log books so they will remain separate, although it is not a requirement for an experimental aircraft. When I'm ready for the inspection, I'll make some nice binder labels. There's still some SkyView and Nav/Com operator manuals missing which I'll print and have spiral bound.
This is a work in progress but getting closer to completion.

Chapter 01 Description and Introduction
Chapter 1 is two pages long with a detailed description of the capacity, controls, flight characteristics, design and much other information. Major sections are:
Description: There are 7 paragraphs describing the Cozy IV.
Introduction: There are 8 paragraphs.
Building Sequence: Advises that while waiting for parts, or epoxy to cure, other chapters can be worked on.
Building Time: Estimate is 2500 hours total time. (This was before the Internet and a bazillion mods that you'll want to implement).
Questions: Suggests resources if you have questions.
Perspective: "If you modify the airplane and then ask us if your modification will work, we cannot give you an answer without conducting the appropriate tests....."
FAA Licensing procedures: (Note the procedures may change).
One paragraph advises that that the non-completion rate of homebuilt aircraft is 80%.
