Chapter 17 (trim) and 22 (Electric) Dynon SV42 Auto Pilot Pitch Servo

I used scrap from the Instrument Panel to make an L bracket for the Dynon SV42 servo.   Flox fillets and several BID tapes were used to mount the L bracket.

The servo weighs 3 .lbs and this bracket will easily support 10 times that.

The geometry wasn't quite correct at this location.  The brackets holes were redrilled and the larger hole for the servo's axle was elongated to move the servo up and a little more forward.

The servo arm can be rotated upward in order to install the bolt and nut for the rod.

The arm and rod need to clear the elevator control rod from the stick.   Ideally, the arm of the servo will be in the same axis as the elevator bell crank.

Chapter 25 update

The "dolphin nose" needs a little fill to make it normal.

After the nose job.
Turtleback under the window looks okay in shop lights.

The turtleback area doesn't look as nice using a single point of light (flashlight).  Bumps are only a few thousandths.

A little sanding and bumps are gone.

Marble Stone Zolatone.  Sprayed with a 1.4 HF HVLP gun.  The canopy was sprayed with a 1.8 tip which made a more coarse pattern.

Canopy is on, Experimental placard applied.

Vance visit 02/19/2020

Vance Atkinson (EAA Technical Adviser) visited today.

He looked at my project:
Finishing progress (top, canopy, strakes, nose). The bottom is smooth.   Commented the Zolatone looks nice and uniform.  We discussed weatherstripping.
I showed him the trim springs I'd made, where the actuator was mounting and how they were being attached to the elevator torque tube.   Also the autopilot pitch servo mount near the air vent.

We looked at the electric fuel pumps and particularly the fuel filter mount and discussed whether it needed a support.   We surmised that our local IA would want it supported.

Vance commented on the shape of the nose, which I said was "like a dolphin".   He recommended changing it to now to match the bottom, otherwise when it's finished will not look normal.  It won't take much work so will do that next.

FAA registration first steps

Previously, I'd reserved an N-number.

Today I submitted this form (Aircraft Registration Form):

https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Form/AC8050-1.pdf
and this Notarized form (Affidavit of Ownership):

https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Form/ac8050-88.pdf

Along a $5 check.

Previously, the 8050-1 form was a multicolored form not on line.  Fortunately the on-line form is available now.

Blogger changes

I updated blogger settings so that mobiles could display this page better.   Unfortunately it is missing the search window and the chapters (labels) at the top of the page when displayed on a mobile device.

I'll try this:
https://techubber.blogspot.com/2016/08/resolved-blogger-labels-tags-not-displayed-mobile-phone-tablets.html

...that didn't help.   Made another change and now the mobile site background etc. has changed.  Put it back and that didn't help.

Update - Tested with a small android tablet and seems to be okay.  An iPhone 6 isn't displaying the chapter and search widgets.
